Event Day Student Volunteers Needed

SAN JOSE, CA – The Almaden Valley Women’s Club hosts its 33rd annual Almaden Valley Art & Wine Festival at Almaden Lake Park on Sunday, September 20 2009. Student volunteers are needed to assist with this year’s event.

Community service hours will be awarded to qualifying youth volunteers. Students must be 14 years old or older to participate. A minimum two-hour shift is required. Interested students may work the full day to earn ten community service hours. Volunteer assignments are available throughout the day of the festival and include set up, supply deliveries, clean up and staffing the children’s area (games, crafts and attractions).

The annual festival relies on the support of volunteers to make this popular community event a continued success. Last year, more than 185 student volunteers participated in event-day activities. Interested students should contact the festival’s volunteer chairwoman, Shar Quinn at volunteers@almadenwine.org. Those with Internet access may complete an online application on the festival website.

This year’s festival will once again be held at the beautiful Almaden Lake Park, centrally located at the intersection of Almaden Expressway and Coleman Avenue in San Jose (near Highways 85 and 87). Admission is free. The park offers a beautiful setting for a delightful day of live entertainment, children’s activities, featured tastings of Santa Clara County wines and beers, the works of talented artists and craftspeople, and delicious food, with proceeds benefiting local schools and non-profit organizations.

Almaden Lake Park is easily accessible by VTA light rail and bus service and the Los Alamitos Creek Trail. Ample free parking is available for cars and bicycles. Parking lot options close to the festival include the Santa Clara Valley Water District on Almaden Expressway and the VTA Almaden Light Rail Station on Coleman Avenue. Festival attendees may also park at the VTA Ohlone-Chynoweth Light Rail Station, near the intersection of Highways 85 and 87, and take a short light rail ride to the festival.

Voted one of the best festivals in San Jose, the annual Almaden Valley Art & Wine Festival is organized entirely by the Almaden Valley Women’s Club. Since 1965, the Club has been committed to serving the needs of the Almaden community and those of greater San Jose, through funds raised at its annual festival.
