2009 Logo Design Contest Winner

SAN JOSE, CA (6/4/09) Linda Bronson, Festival Logo Committee Chair, announced that Jessica Cheng is the winner of the 2009 Festival Logo Contest. Her artwork was unveiled to the large group of parents and club members in attendance. The winning logo will be used on festival promotional materials and engraved on festival glasses.

Jessica has been a student at the Lord of the Light Art Studio for the past three years. She is 17 and a senior at Leland High School and has lived in Almaden for five years. She participates in track & field, cross country and she is also a member of the Leland Key Club. Her interests are photography, singing and dancing, and watching Asian soap operas. Jessica works at Lord of the Light Art Studio and will be attending Otis School of Art & Design.

Runners up were: Ashley Hinojos: 8th grade, Castillero Middle School, and Emily Kehmeier: 10th grade, Leland High School. Each of the honorable mentions received a $25 Target gift certificate and our winner received a check for $100.

The Almaden Valley Art and Wine Festival will be held on Sunday, Sept.20, from 10 AM to 6 PM, Almaden Lake Park, at the intersection of Almaden Expressway and Coleman Avenue in San Jose. The Almaden Valley Women's Club is a non-profit 501 © (3) organization and has orchestrated the festival since 1965. All proceeds from the event go to non-profit organizations and local schools through scholarships and community grants. 2009 Scholarship Winners

The general meeting of the Almaden Valley Women's Club held on Tuesday, May 5, was a very special event. The AVWC recognized several local high school students for their outstanding achievements.

AVWC Scholarship committee Chair, Liz Marino presented 15 students with this year's scholarship awards based upon academic achievements, school participation, and community service. The AVWC is proud to have raised $15, 500 for this year's scholarship fund. Along with a certificate, each winner was awarded a check ranging from $500 - $2,000 to use toward their higher education.
