Student Volunteers Needed - 35th Almaden Valley Art & Wine Festival

The Almaden Valley Women’s Club will host the 35th Annual Almaden Valley Art & Wine Festival at Almaden Lake Park on Sunday, September 18, 2010 from 10:00AM – 6:00PM. The festival relies on the support of volunteers to make this popular community event a continued success. Student volunteers are needed to assist with this year’s event.

Community service hours will be awarded to qualifying youth volunteers. Students must be 14 years old or older to participate. A minimum two-hour shift is required. Students may work the full day to earn ten community service hours. Volunteer assignments are available throughout the day of the festival and include set up, supply deliveries, clean up and staffing the children’s area (games, crafts and attractions).

Interested students can view the requirements and access the online application at: http://www.almadenwine.org/svolunteers.htm.

Additional questions can be sent to our Volunteer Liason at: volunteer@almadenwine.org.

Almaden Lake Park is easily accessible by VTA light rail and bus service and the Los Alamitos Creek Trail. Free parking is available for cars and bicycles. Parking lot options close to the festival include the Santa Clara Valley Water District on Almaden Expressway and the VTA Almaden Light Rail Station on Coleman Avenue. Festival attendees may also park at the VTA Ohlone-Chynoweth Light Rail Station, near the intersection of Highways 85 and 87, and take a short light rail ride to the festival.

The annual Almaden Valley Art & Wine Festival has been orchestrated by the Almaden Valley Women's Club since 1965. The Club, a 501 (c) 3 organization, is committed to serving the needs of the Almaden community and those of greater San Jose, through proceeds from the festival. Zero Waste Event - 35th Almaden Valley Art & Wine Festival

Almaden Art and Wine Festival recognizes the impacts that large events can have on the environment. This year, we have partnered with Nothing Wasted Consulting and the City of San Jose Environmental Services, and are working together to green the 35th Annual Almaden Art and Wine Festival.

Through this partnership, we will have implemented sustainable waste management practices into the event. Any food scraps, paper food ware (such as plates, bowls, cups, napkins), and utensils can go into the green “compostable” container. Any plastic bottles, plastic containers, aluminum cans, and aluminum foil can go into the blue “recyclables” containers.

For more information on our event greening efforts, please contact Nothing Wasted Consulting at contact@nothingwastedconsulting.com. With your help, we can make this the Almaden Art and Wine Festival clean and green.
