95120 Magazine - 2013 Almaden Valley Art & Wine Festival

Welcome to the 37th Annual
Almaden Valley Art & Wine Festival

The Almaden Valley Women’s Club (AVWC) proudly presents the 37th annual Almaden Valley Art and Wine Festival. The fun happens on Sunday September 15th at the Almaden Lake Park (located on Almaden Expressway and Coleman Avenue) between the hours of 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Admission is free along with entertainment, a great view and the opportunity to participate in the one of our community’s best events.

For 37 years, we’ve produced the festival with one goal: to provide an opportunity for our guests to experience a day filled with local entertainment and juried arts and crafts with over 90 artists and craftsmen. You can enjoy premier wines and beer from breweries and wineries in the greater San Jose area served in commemorative glasses. You can also indulge in international food booths staffed by local schools, philanthropic organizations and neighborhood restaurants. The Children’s Area offers a special venue to educate and stimulate children of all ages. The area features child-focused arts and crafts, sports and activities and also features a collage of children’s artwork from local schools and art centers in San Jose.

In addition to all of the above, local school bands, dance groups, cheerleaders and professional entertainers perform throughout the day.

What’s new this year?
We are proud to offer a “premium” wine tent which will have wines from Rombauer Vineyards in Napa, Leal Vineyards in Hollister and David Bruce Estate Wines from the Santa Cruz Mountains. We also have beer trailers this year that will be offering several options from Lagunitas Brewing, Heineken, Full Sail Brewing and a few others we are sure you will enjoy. Skip’s Tire and Auto Center will be hosting the beer garden where you can choose one of the many brands. We have new bands that are guaranteed to entertain you, including The Alison Sharino act – which is sure to get you off your feet and up dancing. Food trucks will be in the main parking lot; great food and fun children’s activities will keep the family entertained throughout the day.

Be prepared to be entertained!
We’re excited to have 8-year old Nayah Damesen open our festival by singing the National Anthem. Next up will be performances from local cheer teams, dance groups and musicians. Our very own District 10 Council Member Johnny Khamis will take the stage to talk about projects, focus and ideas in the afternoon. Shaun Anton, a local country singer on his way up the charts, will be showcasing his original music. Free Fahlen, classic rock band and crowd favorite, will be returning. And did we mention our headliner is The Alison Sharino Band, who will be rocking the house? Oh, and we’re throwing in a Ujam flash mob performance too! Visit our website www.almadenwine.org for more information if you would like to participate in the flash mob.

Hungry?
The Coop will be teasing our taste buds with tequila lime grilled chicken sandwiches, veggies and fries. There will be home-style tacos, burritos and super nachos from Carmen’s Taqueria. The Rotary of Almaden will be serving Chinese chicken salad. The Kiwanis Club of San Jose will present Italian sausage dogs, strawberry\shortcake and ice cream. But wait! There’s more! Artichoke crab cakes with avocado mango salsa, Salvadorian pupusas, foot long corn dogs, fish & chips and funnel cakes from Sweet delight, kettle corn, dip-n-dots, shaved ice and many others will satisfy your appetite. We will also have two food trucks participating in the mobile food feast on site in the main parking lot.

VTA
We are very proud to be partnering with the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Agency. VTA is an independent special district that provides sustainable, accessible, community-focused transportation options that are innovative, environmentally responsible, and promote the vitality of our region. VTA provides bus, light rail, and paratransit services, as well as participates as a funding partner in regional rail service including Caltrain, Capital Corridor, and the Altamont Corridor Express. “Go green, take VTA to the Festival!”

Park Access
Parking is available at the Santa Clara Water District parking lot and the VTA. Shuttle service provided by Del Grande Dealership Group will be offering rides throughout the day. If you ride your bicycle, you can lock it in our bike area located at the south side of the park. Pets are not allowed in the Festival area.

Since 1965, The Almaden Valley Women’s Club has been committed to serving the needs of the Almaden Valley Community and those of greater San Jose Area, through funds raised at our annual Festival. All proceeds from the Festival go directly back to the communities through scholarships, grants and donations to non-profit groups. This year we are creating a grant specifically aimed for maintenance and/or improvement to Almaden Lake Park. All of the members of AVWC volunteer their time to help make this Festival possible and an enjoyable experience for our guests. Our sponsors make the Festival possible through their generous support, loyalty and contributions. We give special thanks to all of our sponsors, artists, vendors and guests for helping us achieve our goal of raising money to help others.
