Almaden Valley Women’s Club Recognizes Several Distinguished Students From The Area - Our 2011 Scholarship Recipients
SAN JOSE, CA – May 8 2011.
We have an unprecedented amount of extraordinary students coming out of the Almaden Valley who will be off to college in the fall many of which applied for our scholarship. Please meet the young adults who are our scholarship winners! We are thankful we are able to help these young people in the next important step in their lives.

“The Almaden Valley Women's Club is proud to recognize all of these talented students who not only represent the Almaden Valley, but the future of our community,” said Sharon Townsend, AVWC President. Along with a certificate, each winner received a check to use toward higher education.
Raymond Liu of Leland High School was awarded a $4000 scholarship. He will be attending Duke University in the fall with interests in Neuroscience and Economics. Although, he has not decided where his college career will take him, we are confident this amazing young man will make a positive impact in the world.
Maryam Qamar of Presentation High School was awarded a $3000 scholarship. She will be attending UCLA or UCSD in the fall majoring in psychology leading to a career as a speech pathologist or special education teacher.
Helen Pun of Leland High School was awarded a $3000 scholarship. She will be attending the University of Pennsylvania in the fall majoring in nursing and economics. We know her caring and leaderships skills will make her a wonderful nurse someday.
Ian Fong of Valley Christian High School was awarded a $2000 scholarship. He will be attending UC Davis in the fall and majoring in mechanical engineering. Who knows maybe someday we will also see him on stage as a famous saxophonist.
Taylor Rottjakob of Presentation High School was awarded a $2000 scholarship. She will be attending the University of Southern California in the fall majoring in accounting. She will be highly missed by all those children she has coached in swimming over the years.
Jennifer Chen of Leland High School was awarded a $2000 scholarship. She will be attending USC with a major in biology and a minor in computer science which will help her pursue a career as a veterinarian, teacher or pediatrician.

Funding for scholarships and community grants are made available by the proceeds from the annual Almaden Valley Art & Wine Festival orchestrated by the Almaden Valley Women's Club.
This year's Almaden Valley Art & Wine Festival will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2011 from 10:00AM to 6:00PM at the Almaden Lake Park at the intersection of Almaden Expressway and Coleman Avenue in San Jose’s Almaden community.
