2008 Logo Design Contest Winner

SAN JOSE, CA (5/8/08) The Almaden Valley Women’s Club is pleased to announce that Lishan Zhu is the winner of the 32nd annual Almaden Valley Art & Wine Festival 2008 Logo Design Contest. Her winning logo design will appear on the festival merchandise and promotional materials.
Lishan is 13 years old and in the eighth grade at Castillero Middle School. She has been an Almaden resident for 5 years. Her interests include drawing, painting, playing the piano and violin. Lishan's favorite art medias are pencil and paints.

The annual Almaden Valley Art & Wine Festival has been orchestrated by the Almaden Valley Women's Club since 1965. Funds raised at this festival are used to serve the needs of the Almaden community and those of greater San Jose through scholarships and community grants. 2008 Scholarship Winners


SAN JOSE, CA (5/6/08) It was a big night at the general meeting of the Almaden Valley Women's Club on May 6, where several local students were acknowledged for their achievements.
The AVWC Scholarship committee presented 13 high school students with this year's scholarship awards based upon academic achievements, school participation, and community service. Along with a certificate, each winner received a check ranging from $500 - $1,000 to use toward their higher education.

The club also recognized Lishan Zhu from Castillero Middle School, who won this year’s annual Almaden Valley Art & Wine Festival logo design contest. Runners up are Lauren Kuechie, Bret Harte Middle School, Alison Wu Lord of the Light Art Studio, Devon Ducker, Leland High School and Abigal Wallace, Alamden Country School.
The Almaden Valley Art and Wine Festival will be held on Sunday, Sept.21, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This is the fifth year the festival will be held at Almaden Lake Park, near the intersection of Almaden Expressway and Coleman Avenue in San Jose's Almaden Community. 2008 AVAWF Seeking Student Volunteers

Seeking Event Day Student Volunteers

On September 21, 2008 the Almaden Valley Womens Club will host the Almaden Valley Art & Wine Festival at Almaden Lake Park. Student volunteers are needed to assist in this year's event.

Students must be at least of 14 years old to participate. Community service hours will be awarded to qualifying youth volunteers. A minimum two hour shift is required. Students may work the full day to earn 10 community service hours. Volunteer assignments available throughout the day include: set up, supply deliveries, clean up and staffing the children's area (games, crafts and attractions).

The success of this popular annual festival relies heavily on the support of volunteers. Interested students should contact Landa Keirstead, Festival Volunteer Chairperson at volunteers@almadenwine.com. Please complete the on-line application. Volunteers will be notified by Landa regarding volunteer shifts.

The festival will be held for the 5th year at the Almaden Lake Park which is located at the intersection of Almaden Expressway and Coleman Avenue in San Jose (near Highways 85 and 87). Admission is free. The park offers a beautiful setting for a delightful day of live entertainment, children's activities, the works of talented artists and craftspeople, bay area wines and beers, and delicious food. Proceeds will benefit local schools and non-profit organizations.

Almaden Lake Park is easily accessible by VTA light rail and bus service and the Los Alamitos Creek Trail. Ample free parking is available for cars and bicycles Parking options close to the festival include the Santa Clara Valley Water District on Almaden Expressway and the VTA Almaden Light Rail Station on Coleman Avenue.
