2007 AVAWF Seeks Artists



Artists Sought for Almaden Valley Art & Wine Festival
The Almaden Valley Women’s Club is Festival is seeking fine artists to display and sell their art at the 31st annual Almaden Valley Art & Wine Festival. The festival is scheduled for Sunday, September 16, 2007 at Almaden Lake Park in San Jose .
Don't miss out on your opportunity to participate in this world-class, juried fine art event. Last year, over 20,000 people attended the premier festival and over 40 artists were represented.

Hula 'Ohana-Wahine: Tahitian Dance

SAN JOSE, CA 9/16/2007 Hula 'Ohana O Puananikauikawekiu performs for their second year at the Almaden Valley Art & Wine Festival. The group is based out of Fremont and is led by Kumu Aileen Gaspar and Toere Arata'i Francis Gaspar. They perform year round at public and private events, and specializes in Hula and Tahitian dancing.

Nuthin’Fancy Will Perform at 2008 AVAWF

Nuthin Fancy: A Tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd meticulously replicates the stage performance of Lynryd Skynyrd, mastering every detail from the original band's clothing to its ripping piano and guitar solos. Each member of Nuthin Fancy has at least twenty years of musical experience, which has assisted them in collectively developing a sense of professionalism and unity unparalleled by other cover bands. "They sound so much like the real Skynyrd" commented one observer, "that I have to keep reminding myself they're not the real thing."

Jessica Johnson Will Perform 2008 Festival

Jessica Johnson is no stranger to performing. Johnson began her musical journey at the age of Five in the San Jose Musical Theater. At the age of Eight, she received formal vocal training and at age 12 she started singing the National Anthem for the San Jose Sharks, which eventually parlayed into singing the National Anthem for additional notable entitles such as: Oakland A’s, San Francisco Giants, Golden State Warriors, LA Dodgers, Anaheim Ducks, SaberCats, Stealth, Olympic Gymnastics Trials, SAP Tennis Open, Silicon Valley Football Bowl, San Jose Sports Hall of Fame, Stanford Men and Women's Basketball, EarthQuakes, America Festival, San Jose State Football, Soccer and Men’s Basketball, USF Basketball and Baseball, Pacific Division Shootout.

April 21, 2007 marked the release of Jessica Johnson recently debut album "Till it Happens to You" with producer and arranger Tom Tomasello collaborating with Johnson each song has been made to fit Johnson’s unique style and voice.

Seven Reasons Performed at 2007 AVAWF

Seven Reasons is a Northern California band made up of four talented musicians: Mike Jones - Vocals/Guitar, Ed Teixeira - Guitar/Vocals, Jon Hampton - Bass, Mike Vanderhule - Drums

Their 14 song debut CD, produced by the drummer and mastered by George Marino at Sterling Sound in New York, features very strong songs writing with hooky melodies, powerful guitars and tight grooves ranging from mid-tempo anthems to punchy rock songs. They recently won a contest on Mix 106.5 in San Jose and opened for Bon Jovi at the San Jose Arena. Also, they performed live on the Mark and Brian morning radio show, KLOS Los Angeles, which is syndicated around the western states. The band is currently getting airplay on a few major Northern California radio stations and they can be seen performing live shows around the west. Their polished, yet edgy live performance leaves no doubt in the listener's mind they have seen a powerful and entertaining band.

Art and Wine Festival Celebrates Life in Almaden

The 31st Annual Almaden Valley Art and Wine Festival will be brimming with Almaden pride this year.
Almost everyone involved in the Sept. 16, 2007 event at Almaden Lake Park is a resident of Almaden Valley, from entertainers and school cheer squads to the church and club groups providing food to the artists.
Festival chair and Almaden resident Lauren Wilson said she thinks of the annual event as a way for the whole community to get together and celebrate the neighborhood.
